One-Way Tipper Driver Kills Young Man in Anambra, Driver Arrested After Fleeing

A young man has been killed in a tragic road crash today after a tipper driver driving against traffic knocked him down in Anambra State.

According to the Anambra Traffic Management Agency (ATMA), the driver, who was driving against one-way on a dual carriageway, fled the scene immediately after the fatal accident, apparently aware of the gravity of his offence.

However, vigilant ARTMA operatives intercepted him at Upper Iweka and handed him over to the Police for further investigation.

Emeka Okonkwo, ATMA Managing Director said the unfortunate incident is another painful reminder of the deadly consequences of one-way driving, a traffic violation the agency has consistently warned motorists against.

He noted that despite repeated public enlightenment and strict enforcement, some motorists still engage in the reckless practice, often resisting arrest and vilifying traffic officers carrying out their lawful duties.

He reiterated his agency’s resolve to intensify enforcement against one-way driving until the menace is eradicated from Anambra roads.
