NAFDAC Uncovers N2bn Counterfeit Alcohol Operation In Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a large scale counterfeit alcoholic beverage operation at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, seizing products valued at over ₦2 billion. The operation was carried out by operatives of the agency’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate following credible intelligence.

The raid led to the discovery of more than 20 illegal stores operating within makeshift parking spaces at the complex. NAFDAC officials reportedly found suspects blending counterfeit alcoholic beverages, revalidating expired and unsafe drinks for resale, and storing banned imported products.

Two suspects were arrested during the operation, while the seized products were evacuated for further investigation and necessary action by the agency.

NAFDAC warned members of the public against patronising suspicious sources of alcoholic beverages, urging consumers and traders to report suspected cases of counterfeiting, product revalidation and illegal sales through its official complaints line, 0800-1-NAFDAC (0800-1-623322).
