Police probe officers over alleged extortion of Lagos dispatch rider

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into an alleged extortion involving a dispatch rider who claimed he paid ₦20,000 to police officers attached to the Makinde Divisional Headquarters.

The dispatch rider had released a video showing the moment he was stopped by police officers conducting a stop and search exercise along Airport Road in Lagos.

He said the officers accused him of driving against traffic, popularly known as “one way”.

Reports alleged that the rider was later extorted of ₦20,000, although the viral video did not capture the alleged payment.

In a statement released on October 5, the Lagos State Police Command said it was aware of the viral video.

The command said it had identified the officers involved as personnel attached to the Makinde Divisional Headquarters and that they had reported to its headquarters for questioning.

The command said the matter was under investigation.
