Gumi: FG Knows Identities, Locations of Terrorists Operating in Nigeria
Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has claimed that the Federal Government possesses detailed intelligence on the identities and locations of terrorists operating across Nigeria, insisting that security agencies are aware of where many of the groups and their leaders are located.
Gumi made the claim during a recent interview while responding to allegations that he secretly meets with terrorists. He said his engagements with armed groups are not conducted secretly or alone, but involve security personnel and, in some cases, traditional rulers in the affected communities.
The Islamic scholar explained that his meetings with armed groups were aimed at promoting dialogue, securing the release of victims and encouraging peace, rather than supporting criminal activities. He maintained that whenever he visits areas where such groups operate, the relevant security authorities and traditional institutions are aware of his movements.
Gumi also argued that locating terrorist leaders hiding in remote forests is more difficult than many people assume. He said accessing such areas requires knowledge of the terrain and local networks, insisting that his engagements should not be interpreted as support for terrorism.
His claims have sparked reactions across the country, with many Nigerians questioning why decisive action has not been taken against terrorists if their identities and locations are already known to security agencies.
