Troops Foil Attempted Mass Abduction at FGGC Monguno, Rescue 46 Students

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, supported by personnel of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (MOPOL), have foiled an attempted mass abduction of students by suspected ISWAP terrorists at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, rescuing 46 students.

In a statement issued on Sunday, July 19, 2026, the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the school is currently serving as temporary hostel accommodation for students of the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno.

According to the statement, the suspected terrorists attacked the facility at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday after allegedly gaining access with the assistance of suspected collaborators. Security personnel on guard immediately engaged the attackers, while the Sector 3 Quick Reaction Force swiftly moved to reinforce the location.

The military said the combined response forced the attackers to abandon the operation and flee without abducting any of the students. All 46 students were rescued and evacuated to Kinnasara Barracks in Monguno, where they underwent medical examination and received necessary care. They were subsequently confirmed to be in stable condition.

However, the statement disclosed that some students were killed after being hit by indiscriminate gunfire during the exchange between the terrorists and security forces. The military did not state the exact number of casualties.

Operation HADIN KAI said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing terrorists and investigate the alleged involvement of collaborators in the attack.
