Police Arrest Suspected Motorcycle Robber, Recover Stolen Bike

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber, Shafiu Nuhu, and recovered a stolen motorcycle following a swift operation in Ibadan.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the arrest followed a distress report received on July 16, 2026, that a commercial motorcyclist, Muhammadu Kamilu, had been attacked by a passenger along Adeniji Estate, Apata, Ibadan.

The suspect allegedly struck the rider with an iron hammer before making away with his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle. Acting on credible information, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit swiftly tracked down and arrested the suspect, recovering both the stolen motorcycle and the iron hammer believed to have been used in the attack.

The victim sustained injuries during the assault, while a good Samaritan, Nathaniel Ibrahim, was also injured after attempting to rescue him. Both were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police said the suspect confessed during interrogation to operating as a lone robber who targeted commercial motorcyclists in Ibadan and surrounding areas. Investigations are ongoing to determine his involvement in other robbery cases and recover additional evidence.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended residents for providing timely information that led to the successful operation and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence driven policing and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Oyo State.
