FRSC Confirms Three Dead, Four Injured in Fatal Truck Crash Along Nnobi–Agulu–Awka Road

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Anambra State Sector Command, has confirmed the death of three persons and injuries to four others in a lone road traffic crash that occurred near St. Jude Catholic Church, Adazi Ani, along the Nnobi Agulu Awka Road.

According to the FRSC, the fatal crash occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 17, and involved a Mercedes Benz 608 commercial truck with registration number XB270NNL.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck developed a mechanical fault while in motion before catching fire. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into a roadside barricade, somersaulted and became completely engulfed in flames, trapping some of the occupants.

The Corps disclosed that seven male occupants were involved in the accident. Three persons died at the scene, while four others sustained serious injuries and received emergency attention from FRSC rescue personnel.

The FRSC said it received the distress call at about 10:35 a.m., with its rescue team arriving at the scene within ten minutes. Officers immediately commenced rescue and traffic management operations, diverted vehicles to the opposite lane to ease traffic flow and arranged for the burnt truck to be removed from the road.

Reacting to the incident, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Anambra State, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery. She reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to prompt emergency response and effective road safety enforcement across the state.

The Sector Commander urged motorists, particularly commercial vehicle operators, to ensure their vehicles are mechanically fit before embarking on any journey. She also cautioned against transporting flammable or hazardous materials in passenger compartments or under unsafe conditions, stressing that regular vehicle maintenance remains essential in preventing avoidable road crashes.

Corps Commander Asekhauno called on Ndi Anambra and all road users to make safety a top priority, assuring that the FRSC would continue to intensify efforts to protect lives and property on the nation’s highways.
