Tinubu’s Wife Launches Kidney Clinic, Health Tech Academy in Jigawa
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has inaugurated a specialised health centre and a health technology academy in Hadejia, Jigawa State, to strengthen the early detection and prevention of chronic kidney disease.
The newly inaugurated Oluremi Tinubu Clinic, located on Garun Gabas Road in Hadejia, was built and fully equipped by the FutureMap Foundation in partnership with eHealth Africa. The facility is expected to provide early screening and preventive healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable communities.
The First Lady also commissioned the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Academy, established by the Federal Government through the National Information Technology Development Agency. The academy will focus on training young people and healthcare professionals to apply technology in addressing health challenges.
Speaking at the inauguration, Senator Tinubu described the projects as important steps toward improving access to quality healthcare and strengthening disease prevention across underserved communities. She noted that the clinic and academy would work together to support early diagnosis and develop innovative solutions for chronic kidney disease.
Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, Kashiful Inuwa, said the academy would serve as a centre for research, data analytics and digital innovation in healthcare. He explained that both facilities would collaborate to develop digital tools and early warning systems capable of improving disease detection and response.
Inuwa added that the projects align with the Federal Government’s recent establishment of the National Health Technology and Data Analytics Office, positioning Jigawa as a key hub for health technology innovation.
Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi welcomed the initiatives and also applauded the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme for the North West. He said the programme would strengthen efforts to tackle food insecurity and malnutrition while expanding access to healthcare services.
During her one day visit to Jigawa State, the First Lady commissioned several projects implemented by both the Federal and Jigawa State governments in the Hadejia Emirate. The visit concluded with renewed commitments to deepen collaboration in healthcare, food security and social protection across the state.
