24 Killed in Plateau Attack as Women Protest, Victims Receive Mass Burial

At least 24 people have been killed in a fresh attack on Bin Per community in Ruff, Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, with women taking to the streets to protest the killings.

The women, who marched peacefully on Tuesday carrying leaves, called on the government and security agencies to urgently protect residents and end the recurring attacks on communities in the state.

The protest followed an overnight attack in which gunmen reportedly invaded homes and killed residents.

A community member, Mrs Ladi Joshua, said the women were devastated by the loss of their husbands, children, relatives and other loved ones.

Meanwhile, the 24 victims have been given a mass burial, while several others who sustained injuries are receiving treatment in hospitals.

The President of the Mwaghavul Youth Movement, Comrade Kyesmang Jonathan, disclosed this during the burial ceremony, describing the killings as a devastating loss to the community.

He called on security agencies to intensify efforts to identify and arrest the perpetrators, while urging the government to deploy adequate personnel to vulnerable communities.

Reacting to the attack, the Plateau State Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Jude Eli Dakur, condemned the killings as barbaric and unacceptable.

Dakur commiserated with the families of the victims and called for immediate security reinforcement across vulnerable communities in Mangu and other parts of Plateau State.

He also urged security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering and establish effective rapid response mechanisms to enable them respond promptly to distress calls.

Dakur appealed to the Federal and Plateau State Governments to work together to restore security and confidence among residents, stressing that citizens should not be left to defend themselves against armed attackers.
