15-Year Old Domestic Worker Rescued From Alleged Months-Long Toilet Confinement In Rivers

A 15 year old domestic worker, identified as Amarachi, has been rescued after she was allegedly locked inside a toilet for several months at her employers’ residence in Abuloma, Rivers State.

Amarachi, who reportedly hails from Ebonyi State, was said to be working for a couple identified as Eze Simeon and his wife when she was allegedly confined in the toilet as punishment over an undisclosed offence.

During the alleged confinement, the teenager was reportedly subjected to severe neglect and fed only once a day, with leftover food said to have constituted her meals.

The teenager reportedly seized an opportunity to call for help on Monday, September 14, when the couple left the residence. Her cries attracted neighbours, who alerted the police at Abuloma Division. Police operatives subsequently arrived at the residence and rescued her.

The Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Agabe Blessing, confirmed the incident, saying investigations are ongoing.

The couple have reportedly been taken into police custody, while members of Amarachi’s family have arrived in Rivers State to take her home.
