Following a 4-Day Annual Prayer Summit 2026 organized recently by the World Christian International Ecumenical Centre Worldwide, Aguleri, the Convener has announced that the prayer gathering has finally brought back peace in and around Otuocha areas.
For instance, academic activities have resumed at Unity Primary School, Umuoba Anam, according to the Convener, Rt. Rev. Amb. Elias Ike Ekwemmuor, while markets in the area have begun to thrive.
He appealed to all those who ran out of their places of living to return, and warned against person or community attacking each other again.
Rev. Ekwemmuor, who also called on the Anambra State Government to set up a special reconstruction, reconciliation and rehabilitation committee for communities in crisis in the area, as well as consider paying compensation to affected people, expressed his team’s willingness and readiness to be part of the committee.
“Support should be rendered to the victims. Some of them are being taken care of at the World Christian International Ecumenical Centre Worldwide, No. 12 Rec. Dr. Ike Elias Ekwemmuor Street, Behind INEC Office, Aguleri. May God continue to protect us all and avert any further civil disturbances in and around Otuocha metropolitan council areas, Aguleri, Umueri, Okebo and Umuoba Anam.”
The Convener of the programme, Rt. Rev. Ekwemmuor, described the event as one that would continue to help in ushering in and sustaining peace and unity in various communities in the area.
He joined other participants at the prayer gathering in appealing to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to construct the street road leading to the center to enable people to easily visit the prayer ground.
Rev. Ekwemmuor noted that the Anambra State Government did a preliminary engineering design of the street since 2021, but later abandoned the construction, praying that the street should be constructed as designed.
He expressed appreciation to those who sponsored the 6th edition of the global prayer gathering, including the former Governor of Anambra, Chief Dr. Willie M. Obiano (Akpokuodike Ndigbo), former Religious Adviser to former Governor Peter Obi and Chief Obiano, Chief Sir Engr. Anselm Okafor, Chief Dr. Lawrence Ojemeni (Onwa Awkuzu), Chief Sir M.E.A. Nwakalor (Omelora Ndigbo) in Nteje, PG of Umuoba Anam community, Hon. Uche Anizor, and others, praying God to reward them immensely.
Participants at the event, including Pastor A.O. Amadi (representing Ebonyi State), Madam Tina Nkalu Ejike, and Mrs. Abumchukwu Egenti, noted that within six years since the prayer gathering started, it has helped to restore peace in communities in crisis in the area.
Held under the theme, “Upholding God’s Purpose For Ndigbo”, the prayer gathering in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state between Wednesday, 28th and Saturday, 31st October, 2026, brought together Christians from different denominations and backgrounds for a period of intercession, unity and spiritual reflection on the future of Ndigbo and Nigeria at large.
During the gathering, special intercessory prayers for permanent and sustainable peace among communities in the Omambala region, particularly Otuocha – Aguleri, Umueri and Umuoba Anam, were made, as, according to the organizers, lasting peace and coexistence among the neighboring communities remain central to the progress and development of Anambra East and the Igbo nation.
Another major highlight of the 4-day gathering was prayers for the nation, with particular focus on the peaceful and successful conduct of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
The prayer sessions also covered broader issues of national unity, good governance and divine direction for the country.
