Woman to Face Attempted Murder Charge for Alleged Knife Attack on 12 Year Old Girl

The Abia State Police Command says a 35 year old woman, Nwoko Gift from Imo State, will be charged to court for attempted murder after she was allegedly caught threatening her 12 year old niece with a kitchen knife.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred on July 5 at IBB Housing Estate, Umuahia, where the suspect allegedly attempted to kill the girl, identified as Miss Ebo Chimamanda, after accusing her of failing to spread clothes before she left for the market.

The police also alleged that the suspect had repeatedly assaulted the child and made threats to kill her before the latest incident.

Acting on intelligence, operatives of the World Bank Divisional Police Headquarters, Umuahia, rescued the victim, arrested the suspect, and recovered the kitchen knife allegedly used during the incident.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. The police said the suspect will be charged with attempted murder upon the conclusion of investigations.
