Woman Set Ablaze by Husband in Kogi Pleads for His Forgiveness

A woman, Mrs Berida Irawo, who was allegedly set ablaze by her husband in Lokoja, Kogi State, has reportedly pleaded for his forgiveness despite the horrific attack.

The incident occurred on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Oworo Estate, Felele, Lokoja, following a domestic disagreement between the couple.

The Kogi State Police Command subsequently arrested the husband, Jacob Irawo, over alleged attempted culpable homicide.

Preliminary police findings indicated that the disagreement began after Berida allegedly burnt some of her husband’s clothes which she believed he was no longer using, without his permission.

The husband allegedly threatened her, fetched petrol from his motorcycle and set her on fire.

The victim is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

A pastor, John Esiga Abu, who visited Berida in hospital on Tuesday, August 18, confirmed that she had pleaded for her husband’s forgiveness.

Abu, however, clarified that Jacob Irawo is not a pastor, as previously reported in some accounts, but a teacher.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
