The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Bond Anyaehie, has received an Award of Recognition from the War Against Drug Abuse, WADA, UNIZIK Chapter, for his support for the campaign against substance abuse and efforts to promote a drug free university environment.
The award was presented during a courtesy visit by the WADA leadership following the successful celebration of the 2026 World Drug Day at the university.
The WADA delegation, led by its President, Dr. Alexander Orji, also presented three students who emerged winners of an inter faculty drug awareness quiz organised as part of the World Drug Day activities.
According to Orji, the July 24 programme attracted 1,090 students from faculties across the university and was designed to educate students on the dangers of substance abuse while encouraging healthier lifestyles.
The top three students were Ndubusi Prosper Sopuruchi, first place; Nwafor Chisom Christian, second place; and Okorie Valentine Chibueze, third place.
Responding, Prof. Anyaehie congratulated WADA on the initiative, describing drug abuse prevention as an important part of the university’s responsibility to produce graduates who are not only academically sound but also morally responsible.
The Vice Chancellor encouraged WADA to sustain its student focused advocacy through education, mentorship and value reorientation, assuring the organisation of the university management’s continued support.
The visit also featured the presentation of trophies and cash prizes to the winning students.
