Troops Recover, Exhume Remains of Slain Community Leader in Imo Forest
Troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade under Operation UDO KA have recovered and exhumed the remains of a community leader, Chief Ibe Anyadu of Aggah Community in Imo State, following intelligence obtained from suspected members of a criminal gang.
According to a statement by the Headquarters of Operation UDO KA, the operation was carried out under the ongoing Operation EASTERN SANITY II after the arrest of suspects linked to the killing of a Nigerian Army soldier and the recovery of stolen service weapons.
The Army said one of the suspects confessed to participating in the alleged murder of Chief Anyadu and led troops to a shallow grave located inside Umudike Forest, identified as one of the gang’s camps.
The remains of the late community leader were exhumed on August 2, 2026, in the presence of his family members, vigilante personnel from Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area, and representatives of the Aggah and Umudike communities.
The family provided a coffin and ambulance to facilitate the evacuation of the remains for a dignified burial in line with local customs and traditions.
Commander of the Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, Major General Oluremi Ayobami Fadairo, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and assured them that justice would be pursued through the prosecution of all those allegedly involved in the crime.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation UDO KA to dismantling criminal networks across the South East, bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice, and ensuring that victims and their families receive closure through lawful processes.
The military also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to sustain ongoing operations against criminal elements in the region.
