Troops Intercept Courier With 180 Explosives Meant for Terrorists in Zamfara
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised suspected terrorists, recovered weapons and intercepted a 57 year old man allegedly transporting 180 explosive materials to terrorist elements.
The operation was carried out on Friday, August 14, 2026, as troops of Sector 2 conducted offensive operations in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, troops engaged terrorists around Garin Kaso, killing two and recovering two rifles, two magazines, nine rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles.
The troops also repelled a subsequent ambush by another group of terrorists, inflicting further casualties and forcing the survivors to flee.
In a separate operation, troops conducting routine vehicle checks intercepted a suspected arms and explosives courier identified as 57 year old Sani Umar.
A search of his vehicle led to the recovery of 180 units of 20mm Super Power explosives, allegedly being transported from Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara to terrorist elements operating in Jibia, Katsina State.
The suspect, vehicle and recovered explosives have been taken into custody for further investigation.
The Theatre Command said the operations demonstrate its sustained effort to disrupt terrorist networks, particularly their logistics and supply chains, while denying them access to weapons and explosives needed to carry out attacks.
