Soludo Signs Akwụkwọ Ọkụkọ Tiwara Aki’s Pardon

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has granted a pardon to controversial native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Ọkụkọ Tiwara Akị.

Nwangwu was serving his sentence at the Awka Correctional Centre following his conviction by the Anambra State High Court in Awka over offences relating to ritual practices and the preparation of charms for criminal purposes.

Reports on Friday said Governor Soludo granted the native doctor a pardon while at the Awka Correctional Centre.

Nwangwu had been arrested in February 2025 by operatives of the Anambra State security outfit, Agunechemba, and subsequently prosecuted by the state government.

On February 27, 2026, the High Court, presided over by Justice Jude Obiorah, sentenced him to imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to charges brought against him.

The court ordered him to renounce the practice of “Oke-Ite” and related ritual activities and to participate in youth reorientation after his release.

The court also ordered the destruction of his shrine in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, an order which the state government subsequently carried out.

Nwangwu’s case formed part of the Soludo administration’s wider crackdown on ritual practices and alleged activities by spiritual practitioners considered to encourage criminality in Anambra State.
