Reps Give IGP 48 Hours To Produce Head of Alleged Fake Agency

The House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, PFIPC, has directed the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to produce the agency’s Director General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, within 48 hours.

The directive was issued on Monday as lawmakers resumed their investigation into the activities and status of the council, which the committee has described as an alleged fake agency.

The lawmakers want Adeyemi to appear before the committee on Wednesday to provide firsthand information on the establishment and operations of the PFIPC.

The controversy surrounding the agency intensified after its Director General made corruption allegations against the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over budgetary allocations to the council.

President Bola Tinubu subsequently directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, to investigate the matter and submit its report within 30 days.

Adeyemi, who was reportedly arrested in Osun State after a bench warrant was issued against him in a police case involving alleged forgery and impersonation, is currently in police custody.

The controversy has continued to generate public debate, with calls for a comprehensive investigation into how the agency appeared in the federal budget, operated from an office in the Federal Secretariat and reportedly maintained a domiciliary account with the Central Bank of Nigeria.
