Police Arrest Woman Over Alleged Self Kidnapping After N3M Ransom Payment

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 22-year old woman identified as Nwachukwu Chidubem Blessing over an alleged case of conspiracy, fraud and self kidnapping following the payment of N3 million ransom by her family.
According to the Police, the woman was reportedly abducted along the Onitsha-Asaba Expressway on August 29, 2026. However, after her family allegedly paid N3 million ransom, she was not released, prompting further investigation.
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, subsequently intensified intelligence gathering and on the afternoon of September 18 traced the alleged victim to a room in Asaba, Delta State, where she was found and taken into custody.
The Police said preliminary investigation indicated that the woman allegedly conspired with a female associate identified as Onyinye, whose other names are yet to be established, and another unidentified male accomplice to stage the kidnapping and obtain money from her family.
The suspect is currently assisting investigators with information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify the alleged accomplices. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the investigation be intensified and that anyone found culpable be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
