Police Arrest 49-Year Old Armed Robbery Suspect, Recover Gun, 50 Cartridges in Anambra
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 49-year old man, Chima Ogumba, suspected of armed robbery and recovered a pump action gun and 50 live cartridges from him.
The suspect was arrested on the morning of Monday, August 17, 2026, by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, during an intelligence led operation along Nkpor Road in Idemili North Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operatives searched the suspect after storming the identified location and recovered the firearm and ammunition.
The police said Ogumba could not provide a satisfactory explanation for his possession of the gun and cartridges.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has ordered a thorough investigation to establish the suspect’s possible involvement in armed robbery and other criminal activities, as well as determine the source and intended use of the recovered weapons.
The Command said it would continue to intensify intelligence led operations, proactive policing, targeted patrols and tactical interventions to identify and dismantle criminal networks across Anambra State.
