The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Barr. Austin Ogbonna, popularly known as Okoludo, on Saturday joined sports enthusiasts and members of various fitness clubs during their regular morning exercise along the popular Ekwueme Road in Awka, Anambra State.
Ogbonna’s appearance at the exercise session provided an opportunity for him to reconnect with members of the fitness community, many of whom were visibly excited to see him participate in an activity he has maintained a personal connection with through his membership of various fitness clubs.
Moving alongside the participants during jogging and other fitness activities, the APC flag bearer exchanged pleasantries with club members and used the opportunity to solicit their support ahead of the January 16, 2027 general election.
He expressed confidence in his longstanding relationship with the people, urging them to work together towards achieving their collective aspirations.
Addressing the gathering, Ogbonna recalled his years of political participation and engagement, including his experience as a two-time delegate for the Federal House of Representatives. He stressed the importance of collective effort, grassroots mobilisation and sustained engagement, calling on party members, youths and supporters to remain committed to the political process.
“We must work together. We must work, work, work, and everything will be fine. Whatever we are doing, let us come together and do what is right,” he told the gathering.
The Chairman of Holy Mango Fitness Club, Dr. Kentu Okoye-Ezeji; Philip Eke of Healthy Living Fitness Club; and Ozo Okechukwu Obiorah of Small Big Family Club were among those who spoke in support of Ogbonna’s candidacy.
They described him as an accessible personality with whom members of the fitness community had maintained cordial relationships, expressing their views that his personal qualities and individual capacity should be considered beyond party affiliations.
Other participants, including Ngozi Ezenwa, Obika Odinnawa and Chief Chukwuemeka Ikegwuogu, also expressed support for the Okoludo campaign, assuring that members of their respective fitness circles would participate in activities supporting his candidacy.
They emphasised the importance of assessing political candidates based on their individual abilities, accessibility and relationship with the people rather than relying exclusively on political party identity.
Beyond the political exchanges, the morning exercise also produced a memorable moment when Ogbonna noticed a young child enthusiastically dancing to the sound of music playing during the fitness activities.
Apparently impressed by the child’s excitement and dance moves, particularly as the music included his campaign jingles, Ogbonna approached the youngster and extended a gesture of affection, creating a heartwarming moment that attracted attention from other participants.
The Saturday gathering featured jogging, dancing and other recreational activities, with music adding colour to the regular fitness routine.
The January 16, 2027 election will determine who represents Awka North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
