New Crown,New Chapter: Madubuko Emerges Eze Chinechendo I of Adazi Ani

History was made in Adazi Ani Ancient Kingdom, Anambra State, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, as prominent businessman and philanthropist, Dr. Chinedu Benson Madubuko, OFR, was crowned Eze Chinechendo I of Adazi Ani in a colourful ceremony that brought together tradition, culture, royalty and community spirit.

The ancient kingdom was alive with excitement as sons and daughters of Adazi Ani, traditional rulers, government representatives, religious leaders, business personalities, community leaders, youths, women and well wishers gathered to witness the historic moment.

The coronation was performed by the three clans that make up Adazi Ani, reflecting the community’s traditional structure and collective acceptance of the new monarch. The Anambra State traditional institution was represented by the Anaocha Traditional Rulers Zone, adding further significance to the occasion.

In his welcome address, the President General of Adazi Ani Town Union, Prof. Obikwelu Raphael Okonkwo, described the coronation as the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the kingdom.

He said the royal crown was not merely a symbol of honour and prestige, but a responsibility to protect the people, preserve their cultural heritage, promote peace and pursue the development and progress of the community.

Prof. Okonkwo called on the people of Adazi Ani at home and in the diaspora to unite behind the new monarch and contribute collectively to building a peaceful, prosperous and progressive kingdom. He also paid tribute to the founding fathers, elders and departed leaders whose sacrifices helped preserve the identity and unity of Adazi Ani.

For renowned businessman Chief Godwin Okeke, the emergence of Madubuko as traditional ruler represents the fulfilment of the wishes of the people, describing him as a God given leader with a demonstrated passion for community development.

Chief Okeke noted that the new monarch had contributed significantly to the transformation of Adazi Ani through infrastructure and human capital development, while consistently promoting peace and unity. He expressed confidence that the new reign would bring even greater progress to the kingdom.

The retired Archbishop of the Province of the Niger and former Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Godwin Okpala, also expressed optimism about the future of Adazi Ani under the new traditional leadership.

He said he had no doubt that the community would become one of the most admired communities in the South East, pointing to the new monarch’s passion for development and his record of service to the people.

Responding to the goodwill messages, Igwe Dr. Chinedu Benson Madubuko, Eze Chinechendo I of Adazi Ani, expressed gratitude to God and the people for entrusting him with the traditional institution.

He pledged to abide by the laws and regulations governing traditional institutions in Anambra State and promised to place the interests of Adazi Ani and its people above his personal interests.

The monarch further assured the people that he would build on his previous contributions to the community, with greater emphasis on infrastructure, human capital development, peace, unity and sustainable progress.

He expressed appreciation to the people of Adazi Ani, dignitaries, friends, well wishers and everyone whose presence and contributions helped make the coronation a memorable occasion.

Beyond the colourful ceremony, the coronation represented something deeper for Adazi Ani. It was a celebration of identity, heritage and continuity, as an ancient kingdom entrusted its traditional institution to a new custodian.

The crown has been placed.

The royal journey has begun.

And for the people of Adazi Ani, the hope is that the reign of Eze Chinechendo I will be remembered for peace, unity, development and a legacy worthy of generations yet unborn.
