Manchester United Sign Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa
Manchester United have completed the signing of Belgium international midfielder Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa in a deal reportedly worth £35 million.
The 29 year old has signed a five year contract at Old Trafford after returning from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he captained Belgium to the quarter finals. He becomes United’s third signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea and goalkeeper Karl Darlow from Leeds United.
Expressing his delight, Tielemans described the move as a dream come true, saying joining Manchester United is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. He added that the club’s ambition to compete for major trophies aligns with his personal desire to achieve greater success.
Manchester United’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, praised the Belgian midfielder as one of the Premier League’s outstanding performers in recent years, saying his technical ability, experience and winning mentality make him an ideal addition to the squad.
Tielemans joined Aston Villa in 2023 on a free transfer from Leicester City, where he won the FA Cup. He played a key role in Villa’s successful campaign last season, helping the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League and lift the UEFA Europa League trophy.
United have prioritised strengthening their midfield following the departure of Casemiro and the World Cup injury suffered by Manuel Ugarte. The Red Devils finished third in the Premier League last season under manager Michael Carrick, securing qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
