Lagos Government Arrests Over 200 Beggars

Personnel of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps have commenced intensive operations across the state to tackle street begging and the activities of street urchins.

Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, said 215 street beggars were apprehended during the exercise.

The figure comprises 152 males, 46 females and 17 young adults.

Wahab said the operation is part of the state’s efforts to maintain public order, promote environmental sanitation and ensure safer and more orderly public spaces across Lagos.
