Journalist Elected Leader Of Idemili South Congress Of Councillors

A journalist, Valentine Mbadugha has been elected the Leader of the fifth legislative council of Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Rt Hon. Mbadugha emerged the leader of the house following the inauguration of the Congress of Councillors by the new Mayor of the Local Government Area, Hon. Oluchukwu Ilogbenu.

Mr Mbadugha is a two time member of the coungress having been elected to represented Nnokwa Ward on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in 2024 and in 2026.

He served as the Deputy Majority Leader in the fourth legislative council.

Other principal officers of the house include: Esther Ayinofu- Deputy Leader, (Oba Ward II); Chisom Okpala — Majority Leader (Nnobi Ward I); Onyeka Nwokafor — Deputy Majority Leader ( Akwu-Ukwu Ward); Obi Ngige — Chief Whip (Alor Ward I.) and Ikechukwu Ilechukwu — Deputy Whip ( Ojoto Ward).

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Leader, Rt. Hon. Mbadugha urged his colleagues to uphold the dignity of the legislative institution, maintain high standards of conduct, and ensure effective representation of their constituents.

Mbadugha also thanked Mayor, Hon. Ilogbenu and assured him of harmonious working relationship and residents of the council area that the legislative council would remain committed to its responsibilities and strive to meet the expectations of the people.

Speaking before inaugurating the house, Hon. Ilogbenu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots development and effective service delivery and called on the legislative council to work collaboratively with the executive arm, promote unity, and prioritise initiatives that address the needs and aspirations of residents.

The Mayor noted that the realisation of the administration’s Idemili South Rising vision depends on responsible leadership, purposeful representation, and cooperation among the various arms of government.

The inauguration ceremony attracted political leaders and key stakeholders in the council area including the APGA candidate for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Ikenna Iyiegbu; the member representing Idemili South Constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Ebuka Igwe; the Head of Local Government Affairs, Comrade Victor Orji; the Clerk of the Legislative Council, Sir Clems Ezedinachi; and the immediate past Leader of the Council, Hon. Ernest Ezeunyim.

The Deputy Mayor, Hon. Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ejiofor was also in attendance.
