Gas Laden Tanker Catches Fire in Lagos, No Casualty Recorded

A disaster was averted in the early hours of Thursday after a gas laden tanker caught fire along Abaranje Road in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred at Ola Farm Bus Stop and was swiftly brought under control by emergency responders, with no loss of life or injuries recorded.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, said preliminary findings indicated that the tanker was travelling at high speed when it struck a road bump, causing the driver to lose control.

The impact reportedly led to a tyre burst, which triggered the fire.

LASEMA officials, working alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, extinguished the fire and secured the area to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby homes, businesses and other road users.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police also assisted with traffic and crowd control during the operation.

Efforts were ongoing to evacuate the burnt tanker from the road using heavy duty equipment and restore normal traffic flow.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke Osanyintolu, urged motorists to obey speed limits, particularly around speed bumps and residential areas.
