Four Suspected Bandits Killed, 35 Cows Recovered in Kwara
Four suspected bandits have been killed during a joint security operation that foiled an alleged cattle rustling attack in Lade, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The Kwara State Police Command said the operation followed credible intelligence that armed men had invaded a cattle camp on Friday night, September 11, 2026, and rustled about 40 cows.
Police, soldiers, Forest Guards and local vigilantes reportedly pursued the attackers into the surrounding forest, where the suspects engaged the security team in a gun battle.
Four members of the group were killed during the encounter, while others reportedly escaped into the forest with suspected gunshot wounds.
Security operatives recovered 35 of the stolen cows and a locally fabricated AK 47 rifle, while efforts are ongoing to track the fleeing suspects and recover the remaining livestock.
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, commended the security agencies and local communities for their cooperation, stressing that intelligence sharing and coordinated operations are vital in tackling criminal activities in rural communities.
