FG, IFAD Support 1,918 Nasarawa Farmers with Farm Inputs, Tricycles
The Federal Government, in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), has distributed improved farm inputs and 22 tricycles to 1,918 farmers in Nasarawa State to boost rice and cassava production during the 2026 wet farming season.
The intervention, implemented under the FGN/IFAD Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP), targets farmers in Lafia, Doma, Wamba, Karu, and Nasarawa Local Government Areas.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony in Lafia, the State Programme Coordinator, Dr. Eunice Adigizi, said the support includes certified rice seeds, improved cassava stems, herbicides, NPK and urea fertilisers, covering 195 hectares of rice and 140 hectares of cassava cultivation.
She noted that 22 tricycles were also presented to farmer organisations to improve the transportation, aggregation, and marketing of farm produce, while urging beneficiaries to use the items responsibly to improve productivity and increase their incomes.
The programme also presented ₦1.2 million to persons with disabilities in the state. The National Programme Coordinator of the FGN/IFAD VCDP, Fatima Aliyu, commended the Nasarawa State Government for its continued support and urged beneficiaries not to sell the distributed items.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Umaru Tanko Tunga, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to agricultural development, describing the initiative as a major boost to rice and cassava value chains. Beneficiaries expressed appreciation, saying the intervention would enhance their farming activities and improve their livelihoods.
