FG Approves Design, Procurement of Two Strategic Dual Carriageways Linking Anambra to Other Regions

The Federal Government has approved the design and procurement of two major dual carriageway projects expected to strengthen road infrastructure and improve connectivity between Anambra State and other parts of the country.

The approval followed sustained engagements between the Anambra State Government and the Federal Government. After a meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo on July 1, the Federal Ministry of Works requested the submission of priority road corridor proposals from the state.

Governor Soludo subsequently presented two strategic road projects on July 3. They include the 108 kilometre Otuocha, Anam, Abaji Road, which will connect Anambra to Kogi State, and the 150 kilometre Oba, Nnewi, Uga, Ihube, Okigwe Junction Road, designed to link Anambra and Imo States with the Enugu Port Harcourt Expressway through parts of Abia State.

According to Governor Soludo, the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, formally conveyed President Tinubu’s approval for both projects on July 15, clearing them to advance to the design and procurement stage. He noted that the roads will serve as strategic transport corridors connecting the Southeast with the North Central and South South regions.

Governor Soludo expressed confidence that the projects will boost trade and commerce, improve the movement of goods and services, reduce travel time and open up greater economic opportunities across the benefiting states. He added that the approval reflects the growing collaboration between the Anambra State Government and the Federal Government in delivering critical infrastructure that will enhance regional integration and improve the socioeconomic wellbeing of the people.
