ABS Acting MD Seeks Staff, Union Support to Protect Establishment

The Acting Managing Director of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Barrister Mrs. Juliet Mbonu Ike, has called on members of staff and labour unions in the organization to work together in protecting the establishment and safeguarding its assets, stressing that collective responsibility is essential to the growth and sustainability of ABS.

Mrs. Mbonu Ike made the call when members of the Caretaker and Credentials Committees of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, ABS Chapels, paid her a courtesy visit in her office at the ABS Headquarters, Awka. She described constructive criticism and opposition as important tools that enable leaders to identify areas requiring improvement and make informed decisions.

The Acting Managing Director commended the NUJ in ABS for remaining visible and committed to the welfare of its members. She urged journalists to continue supporting the union’s leadership while promoting unity and teamwork for the overall progress of the organization. She also encouraged workers to strive to leave lasting legacies through dedication, professionalism and integrity.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the NUJ, ABS Chapels, Comrade Joseph Egbeocha, praised the achievements recorded by the management under Mrs. Mbonu Ike’s leadership. He expressed confidence that staff welfare would continue to receive attention and explained that the visit was to formally notify the Acting Managing Director of the forthcoming NUJ chapel election scheduled to hold in Awka and Onitsha, while seeking management’s support.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Credentials Committee for the NUJ ABS Chapels Election 2026, Comrade David Okpokwasili, disclosed that all arrangements for the election had been concluded and assured members that the exercise would be free, fair, credible and transparent.

Speaking during the visit, the Treasurer of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, and member of the NUJ ABS Awka Chapel, Comrade Chibuzo Obidike, assured the Acting Managing Director of the union’s continued support and collaboration towards repositioning ABS to effectively meet the expectations of its audience.

The Secretary of the Caretaker Committee of NUJ, ABS Chapels, Comrade Emmanuel Okonkwo, and a member of the Credentials Committee, Comrade Amaka Onwuzulike, were also present during the courtesy visit.
