Delta Police Arrest 16 For Different Crimes, Recover Guns, Stolen Cars, Illicit Drugs

The Delta State Police Command has arrested 16 suspects and recovered two firearms, a stolen Toyota Camry and quantities of substances suspected to be illicit drugs in separate operations across the state.

The command said eight suspects were arrested during a raid on a suspected cult gathering at Aragba Orogun, following intelligence about a planned meeting. A subsequent search at the residence of one of the suspects led to the recovery of a pump action gun and one live cartridge.

In another operation at a construction site in Okpanam, police arrested a 30 year old suspect, Collins Dunkun, over an alleged extortion attempt. According to the command, the suspects allegedly stopped workers, seized their tools and demanded N700,000 before allowing work to continue. Police said six other suspects escaped.

The command also reported the arrest of five suspects during a raid on an incomplete building at King Zanga, Ugbuegwai Community, Warri, over suspected illicit drug activities. Police said substances suspected to be Indian hemp, Codeine, Colorado, Rizla, SK and Canadian Loud were recovered.

Meanwhile, two suspects, Destiny Suleman, 41, and Samuel Ejiro, 21, were arrested in Ekpan and a Toyota Camry allegedly stolen in Benin City on September 7 was recovered. The vehicle, with registration number BEN 572BT, was traced to New Era area of Jakpa Road, Ekpan, where the suspects were arrested.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, warned that cultism, unlawful possession of firearms, extortion, illicit drug activities and other criminal acts would not be tolerated in the state. He said the command would continue to take proactive measures to disrupt criminal networks and bring offenders to justice.

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
