Court Jails 12 for Spraying Naira at Delta Party
The Federal High Court sitting in Warri, Delta State, has convicted and sentenced 12 individuals for abusing the naira by spraying currency notes while dancing at a party.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, disclosed that Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa convicted the defendants after they pleaded guilty to charges of tampering with naira notes, contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
Eleven of the convicts were sentenced to six months imprisonment or a fine of N150,000 each, while Akenuwa Clinton Osamudiamen was sentenced to six months imprisonment or a fine of N200,000.
The EFCC said the defendants admitted to spraying naira notes at a birthday party, leading the prosecution to urge the court to convict and sentence them. Their defence counsel pleaded for leniency, describing them as remorseful.
The court also ordered all the convicts to undertake in writing to be of good conduct going forward.
In a separate development, Justice Nganjiwa ordered the forfeiture of seven luxury vehicles recovered as proceeds of crime from convicted internet fraudsters to the Federal Government.
