ASTUC Youth Wing Honours Anaocha Role Models, Charges Youths to Embrace Positive Values

The Anambra State Town Unions Council, ASTUC Youth Wing, has honoured community role models from Anaocha Local Government Area for their contributions to community development and service, charging them to use their influence to promote positive values among young people.

The recognition programme, held at Neni Town Hall, brought together role models from the ten communities in Anaocha, with supporters highlighting their contributions to humanity, family and grassroots development.

The Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area, Honourable Rome Ibekwe, commended the ASTUC Youth Wing for promoting youth reorientation and positive values, saying his administration had prioritised youth empowerment through skills acquisition programmes.

Ibekwe said the council had completed the first and second phases of its skills acquisition programme under which youths were trained and empowered, in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s “One Youth, Two Skills” initiative.

He disclosed that additional skills acquisition centres would be commissioned at Akweze and Neni, assuring that his administration would continue to provide opportunities that would enable young people to become productive and self reliant.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, who chaired the programme, said the Soludo administration had made significant investments in youth development through initiatives in education, healthcare and other areas designed to improve the welfare and future prospects of young people.

Earlier, the National President of the ASTUC Youth Wing, Comrade Ken Okoli, said the programme was organised to celebrate individuals whose contributions had brought development and progress to Anaocha, stressing that the recognition was based on measurable community service and impact.

Okoli also commended Governor Soludo for efforts to tackle insecurity in the state, saying the Homeland Security Law had contributed to creating an environment where youths could pursue productive ventures and make meaningful contributions to society.

Some of the recognised role models, including Barrister Chukwudi Oli, Dr Gerald Ozoh, Barrister Ndubisi Obiadi and Honourable Ikeobi Ejiofor, pledged to do more for youth development and urged young people to avoid actions capable of destroying their future.

The programme ended with the presentation of awards to the role models and featured cultural displays and other activities.
