By Chukwuemeka Modilim

The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency, ANSACA, has taken HIV prevention, testing and awareness services to residents of Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area.

The exercise, led by the agency, also featured hepatitis testing and screening for other infectious diseases, with hundreds of residents participating.

The team sensitised residents on HIV prevention, encouraged them to know their health status and advised them to avoid behaviours that could negatively affect their health. Blood pressure checks were also conducted during the exercise.

Speaking to ABS, President General of Abagana Welfare Union, Sir Linus Okafor, commended ANSACA and its Executive Director, Dr Nkem Okeke, for extending the programme to the community. He said the initiative would help residents know their health status and learn ways of preventing HIV.

Also speaking, an indigene of the community, Chief Childi Ekemezie, described the initiative as commendable and appealed to individuals, companies and corporate organisations to partner with ANSACA in the fight against HIV in Anambra State.
