The Executive Director of the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), Dr. Nkem Okeke, and the Mayor of Idemili South Local Government Area, Mr. Oluchukwu Ilogbenu, have inspected selected Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in Oba, Akwukwu and Ojoto to assess healthcare delivery, HIV services and infrastructure needs.

The inspection, conducted on Tuesday, focused on identifying gaps in primary healthcare delivery, strengthening HIV prevention and treatment services, and improving access to maternal healthcare at the grassroots.

During the visit, the team encountered about five mothers who had recently delivered their babies under the free antenatal care and delivery programme of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s administration.

Dr. Okeke commended the governor for the initiative, noting that free maternal healthcare helps reduce the financial burden on families and improves access to essential services for pregnant women and nursing mothers.

He stressed the need to address infrastructure deficiencies and other service delivery challenges identified during the inspection, explaining that functional primary healthcare facilities are critical to ensuring that communities receive quality healthcare.

The ANSACA executive director also underscored the importance of strengthening HIV prevention, testing, treatment and support services at the primary healthcare level to ensure that more people can access essential services within their communities.

The inspection highlighted the importance of collaboration between ANSACA and local government authorities in improving grassroots healthcare delivery, particularly in maternal health and the state’s HIV response.

The engagement further reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to expand access to essential health services and support efforts to build a healthier Anambra State.
