The Anambra State Government has defended its choice of construction companies handling road projects across the state, insisting that it engages established contractors with the technical and financial capacity to execute major infrastructure projects.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Arc. Okey Ezeobi, made this known during a press briefing responding to allegations that the government was awarding road contracts to inexperienced or substandard companies.
He named GELD, LEFTECH, AG Vision, Benigaf and IDC Construction among the companies engaged by the administration.
According to him, GELD is handling the road stretch from Amawbia towards Nanka, while the other companies have experience executing projects in different parts of Nigeria and beyond.
Ezeobi said the government deliberately considered the capacity of contractors to deliver large-scale projects and return to site whenever construction defects were identified.
He argued that established companies were better positioned to undertake corrective work when failures occurred, unlike contractors who might lack the resources to address defects after completing projects.
The Commissioner also stressed that the government was not exempting contractors from responsibility, acknowledging that human errors could occur during construction.
He said the administration expected contractors to rectify identified failures, adding that the government was committed to ensuring that road projects met the required standards.
