The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, AIRS, has commenced statutory compliance monitoring and enforcement against taxpayers who failed to regularise their outstanding tax obligations before the expiration of the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration and Tax Regularisation Scheme, VAIDS.
The Executive Chairman of AIRS, Ikeazor Okonkwo, said VAIDS ended on September 5, 2026, closing the opportunity for taxpayers to voluntarily regularise their liabilities and benefit from applicable concessions.
He said the enforcement will cover individuals, businesses, corporate organisations and other taxable persons with outstanding obligations, including those who received Best of Judgment, BOJ, assessments but failed to object to or settle them within the prescribed period.
According to AIRS, enforcement measures may include final statutory demand notices, sealing of premises where applicable, recovery of outstanding liabilities through lawful procedures, and prosecution in cases involving established tax offences.
The Service urged affected taxpayers to take immediate steps to regularise their outstanding obligations and comply with applicable tax laws.
AIRS said the exercise is part of efforts to promote a fair, transparent and technology driven tax administration system and strengthen revenue generation for sustainable development in Anambra State.
