The Obizi Women Squad of Awka South II Constituency has honoured Hon. Obby Nwankwo, popularly known as Okwuego, with a meritorious award for his selflessness, uprightness and commitment to the welfare of women, children and the less privileged.

The award was presented by the convener of the group, Queen Lady Dr. Ngozi Ekwunife, during the Obizi Women Squad’s 2nd Annual Cultural Carnival 2026 at Central School, Amawbia.

Lady Ekwunife described the recognition as an honour for exceptional merit, praising Nwankwo’s simplicity, compassion and commitment to building a better society. She said the carnival was organised to celebrate the people’s cultural heritage, promote unity, empower women and encourage peaceful coexistence and community development.

She also thanked Nwankwo for accepting the award, noting that his concern for the welfare of others informed the group’s decision to recognise him.

In his response, Nwankwo expressed appreciation to the women for the honour, describing it as a meaningful encouragement. He said supporting one another, particularly during difficult times, was essential to improving lives and pledged to remain committed to assisting people whenever the opportunity arose.

The APGA candidate for Awka North and South Federal Constituency also urged members of the group to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in the 2027 general election, encouraging them to support APGA at the polls.

The cultural carnival featured a parade, traditional competitions, cultural performances and a healthy living talk, alongside activities aimed at celebrating the community’s heritage and promoting development.

The event highlighted the role of cultural gatherings in strengthening community bonds, recognising service and advancing women’s participation in community affairs.
