Residents and business owners in Awka have welcomed the commencement of construction and dualisation of the 7.04 kilometre Coca-Cola Junction to Isiagu road, a strategic infrastructure project expected to improve access to the site of Anambra’s proposed second airport and Aerotropolis City.
The project, designated Lot 3, stretches from Coca-Cola Junction through the Agu-Awka axis of Zik’s Avenue to the Isiagu axis. Beyond easing movement for residents and businesses, the road is expected to strengthen connectivity to the planned Aerotropolis City, which is central to the state’s emerging aviation and infrastructure ambitions.

Construction began in the first week of October 2026, and the project team has so far cleared and grubbed more than 2.4 kilometres of the route.
Speaking on the project, Engineer Omamofo Ken-Wiwa, a project engineer with Ag. Vision Construction Company, said the road would be constructed as a dual carriageway, with each carriageway measuring 7.3 metres wide. The design also includes walkways on both sides, a central median and streetlights.
Ken-Wiwa said the contractor was expected to complete the project before September 2027, adding that mobilisation to the site had proceeded smoothly.

He commended the Anambra State Government for its funding arrangements, saying payments for work certificates and mobilisation had been made as and when due.
Addressing concerns about the durability of roads constructed in the state, the engineer assured residents that the company was committed to delivering quality work in line with the required standards and within the agreed timeframe.
He disclosed that discussions had been held at the Ministry of Works on measures to ensure that the quality and value of infrastructure delivered to the state matched the public funds expended.
Also speaking, Engineer Salloum Saowaf, area manager of the construction firm, said work began in early October and that the company was working to achieve quality delivery within the stipulated completion period.
Residents and business owners, including Ebele Nwankwo, Onyekachi Samson, Mrs Chineye Anagwu and Mrs Peace Nzekwe, expressed excitement over the commencement of the project, citing its potential to improve access and stimulate commercial activities along the corridor.
The road’s significance extends beyond the immediate communities. As Anambra pursues plans for a second airport and the associated Aerotropolis City, reliable road connections will be important for linking the proposed aviation hub with Awka and surrounding areas.
The project therefore raises expectations that improved access infrastructure could support future passenger movement, business activity and investment around the proposed development. Its wider economic impact, however, will depend on the progress of the airport project and the delivery of the supporting infrastructure.
