Visually Impaired Teacher Appeals to Anambra Government for Traffic Controllers, PTA Teachers’ Absorption

A visually impaired secondary school teacher, Mrs Chinyere Nwabunwanne, has appealed to the Anambra State Government to deploy traffic controllers along the Oye-Agu Abagana–Onitsha Old Road axis to improve the safety of schoolchildren and persons living with visual impairment.
Nwabunwanne, a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teacher at Saint Mary’s High School, Ifitedunu, identified the road opposite the school and Saint Martin’s Catholic Church, Abagana, as an area requiring urgent attention because of the challenges pedestrians face while crossing the busy route.
She said the absence of adequate traffic control exposed schoolchildren and visually impaired persons to potential road accidents, urging the government to intervene by deploying traffic personnel to guide pedestrians and ensure safer movement.
The teacher also appealed to the state government to consider PTA teachers in its planned recruitment into the Anambra State Civil Service.
According to her, absorbing PTA teachers into the state workforce would improve their working conditions, provide better remuneration and strengthen their capacity to support their families and pursue further professional development.
She particularly called for consideration of teachers living with disabilities, noting that stable employment opportunities would improve their welfare and promote greater inclusion in the public service.
Nwabunwanne, however, expressed appreciation to the Anambra State Government for its continued support for persons living with disabilities across the state, while urging further measures to address their safety, employment and welfare needs.
