Thirteen clubs are set to compete for honours and prizes at the maiden Anambra Governor’s Cup Lawn Tennis Competition, scheduled to hold from October 27 to 30, 2026, at the Anambra Country Club, Awka.

The competition is being organised by Anambra Country Club in collaboration with Audi Company Limited, with the aim of promoting lawn tennis, physical fitness and healthy living.

Disclosing this to journalists in Awka, the President of Anambra Country Club, Chief Damian Enekwechi, said the tournament would become an annual sporting initiative designed to encourage participation in lawn tennis and strengthen the culture of recreational sports in the state.

Enekwechi said the club was also open to sponsorship partnerships in lawn tennis, swimming and other sporting activities. He highlighted its secure environment and modern recreational facilities, adding that the club remained committed to excellence and efficient service delivery.

He further explained that membership was open to eligible married individuals who met the club’s admission requirements and wished to enrich their social and recreational lives.

Also speaking, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Audi Company Limited, Dr Clem Ifezue, said the partnership reflected the company’s commitment to giving back to Anambra State and society through corporate social responsibility initiatives focused on health, education and sports.

Ifezue commended the quality of facilities at the club, describing them as consistent with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to sports development and his vision of creating a safe environment where people can work, relax and enjoy recreational activities.

The tournament consultant, Mr Chiedu Agusiobu, disclosed that 13 clubs would participate in the competition, which is open to players aged above 40. He added that prizes had been provided for winners and participants.

The maiden tournament is expected to provide a platform for veteran tennis players to demonstrate their skills, encourage healthy competition and strengthen sporting relationships among clubs, while promoting Awka as a destination for recreational and sporting activities.
