Driver detained after alleged discovery of drugs concealed in energy drink bottle
A commercial bus driver has reportedly been detained by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, after accepting a waybill package in Lagos for delivery to Ondo State.
The package reportedly appeared to contain an ordinary bottle of Fearless energy drink. However, during inspection, the bottle was allegedly found to have been used to conceal Colorado, popularly known as Colos, and methamphetamine.
Following the discovery, the driver was detained while efforts were made to identify and trace the person who gave him the package.
The sender was subsequently identified and arrested, according to the report.
The incident has renewed concerns about the risks faced by commercial drivers and transport operators who accept sealed parcels from unknown persons.
Drivers and members of the public are therefore advised to exercise caution when accepting packages for delivery and, where possible, verify the contents and identity of the sender before taking possession.
Being unaware of the contents of a parcel may not necessarily prevent legal consequences when prohibited substances are discovered in a person’s possession.
The warning is simple: Know what is inside the parcel before you carry it.
