NDLEA Seizes N3.4bn Worth of Drugs, Arrests Fake Police Officer, Mechanic

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has intercepted more than 1.3 million pills and capsules of tramadol and other opioids, as well as about 6,000 kilograms of cannabis in operations across eight states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The agency said the combined street value of the seized illicit drugs is more than N3.4 billion, with a major seizure involving 1,200 parcels of Canadian Loud weighing 603.75 kilograms and valued at about N1.81 billion.
The consignment was intercepted at Tin Can Island Port in Lagos after arriving from Montreal, Canada, on September 12, 2026.
In Delta State, NDLEA operatives arrested 49 year old Innocent Ekpe along the Benin Onitsha Expressway in Asaba with 292.48 kilograms of skunk allegedly concealed inside a Toyota Sienna bus. The agency said Ekpe allegedly impersonated a Deputy Superintendent of Police using a forged identification card to evade checkpoints. A 39 year old alleged accomplice, Nduka Joseph, was also arrested.
In Edo State, a mechanic identified as Matthew Ossai was arrested at an auto repair workshop where NDLEA said 48 kilograms of Canadian Loud and 152 grams of methamphetamine were recovered. The agency said other operations across Edo, Niger, Ondo, Gombe, Imo, Lagos and the FCT also led to the recovery of large quantities of tramadol, cannabis, codeine syrup, methamphetamine and other illicit substances.
