Our Local Governments Strong, Viable – Soludo Speaks At Commissioning Of Road Project In Ekwusigo

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has announced that the local government system in Anambra State is officially back, fully operational, and actively adding value to the grassroots.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony in Ekwusigo Local Government Area, the Governor stated that he was in the local government to commission a 3-kilometer road completed with sub-cement stabilization, stone base, and asphalting built by the Mayor, Mr. Chimezie Obi.

He commended Mr Obi and the local government council for executing a landmark project of such super quality and doubted that any local government in the state had built a road of such high standard in the last 20 years.

The Governor explained that this success stems from restructuring and strengthening local governance through dedicated state administrative laws to ensure fiscal strength and long-term sustainability, emphasizing that the era of councils failing to pay primary health workers, pensioners, or settling gratuities is firmly over.

Addressing a legacy issue regarding primary school teachers owed for 16 months since 2001, Governor Soludo announced that a recertification process exceeding 400 million naira is underway to clear the remaining balance immediately upon completion.

Highlighting that the new road serves as a proof of concept for effective local governance, Governor Soludo noted that the people’s money is actively working for their benefit and pointed out that Anambra remains a massive construction site with over 137 roads and projects awaiting commissioning as a testament to the dividends of democracy delivered by the APGA administration.

During the gathering, Hon. Obi, took the floor to run through a lengthy catalogue of projects his administration had completed, claiming that he was simply mirroring Governor Soludo’s grand blueprint and the sacred promises of the people’s manifesto.
