By Emmanuel Chigbata

The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs has commended the Mayors of Anambra East and Anambra West Local Government Areas, Mr Ifeanyi Chinweze and Mrs Edith Ndive, for their developmental initiatives.

The committee, led by Honourable Ebuka Igwe, gave the commendation during an oversight visit to the local government headquarters in Otuocha and Nzam to assess their activities, achievements and challenges.

The visit formed part of the Assembly’s oversight responsibilities to ascertain the level of development and functionality of local government areas across the state.

The Mayor of Anambra West, Mrs Ndive, said the council had recorded achievements in various sectors, including the acquisition of five boats, rehabilitation of roads, installation of solar powered facilities, provision of boreholes and acquisition of buses.

She explained that one of the boats is being used for surveillance, while another provides transportation services, particularly for residents of riverine communities.

The Mayor of Anambra East, Mr Chinweze, described the visit as an opportunity to present the council’s achievements and challenges, as well as areas requiring state and federal government intervention.

He reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to improving the welfare of residents and ensuring that available resources are channelled into projects and programmes that directly benefit the communities.
