One Dead, Two Rescued After Building Collapses During Demolition in Lagos

One person has died while two others were rescued alive after a two storey building undergoing manual demolition partially collapsed in Aboru, Alimosho, Lagos State.

The incident occurred at about 12:56 a.m. at No. 42 Governors Road, Aboru, reportedly trapping workers beneath the rubble. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, deployed its Alpha Eagle Response Team and assumed command of the rescue operation.

Two adult males were successfully rescued from the debris and given first aid by personnel of the Lagos State Ambulance Service before being taken to a nearby health facility. However, another adult male was recovered dead from beneath the collapsed structure.

The rescue operation involved LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and LASAMBUS, while the area was cordoned off to protect residents and provide safe access for emergency responders.

LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke Osanyintolu, urged developers and members of the public to comply with building regulations and engage certified professionals for demolition and construction work. He also advised residents to report unsafe building activities through the 767 or 112 emergency numbers.
