Police Arrest Man Over Alleged Killing of Girlfriend

Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have arrested Manaseh Bitrus Jatau in connection with the alleged killing of his girlfriend, 35 year old Rebecca Ojonike Jeremiah, in Kaduna.

The Police said the deceased’s lifeless body was discovered along Mai Angwa Street, Romi, on September 5, with cotton wool allegedly stuffed in her nose. Detectives from the Romi Outstation rushed her to St. Gerald Hospital, Kakuri, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. Her remains have been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

According to the Police, preliminary investigation showed that Jatau was the last person to contact the deceased and had invited her to meet him at Ebano Joint, Romi. He was subsequently traced and arrested at his workplace, Tomato Jos Company, Maraban Jos.

The Police further said the suspect, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to having a fight with the deceased in his room over a phone call from another woman, after which she died. He allegedly told investigators that he dumped her body in an open field near his residence in an attempt to conceal the incident.

Confirming the arrest, the Police spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, said Jatau remains in custody while investigation continues. He added that the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
