Two Arrested as Imo Police React to Trending Video of Vigilantes Harassing Siblings

The Imo State Police Command has arrested two members of the Imo State Vigilante Organization over an alleged assault involving a young woman and her brother at Okigwe.

The incident came to public attention after a video showing the siblings in a confrontation with armed men went viral on social media. The siblings were reportedly travelling to Abia State University when the incident occurred.

While some reports identified the armed men as police officers, the Imo State Police Command has clarified that they were not members of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Henry Okoye, identified the two suspects as Ejiogu Nchekwube and Caleb Onyebuchi, saying they have been arrested and are currently detained at the Okigwe Divisional Police Headquarters.

In the viral video, the young woman could be heard alleging that one of the armed men assaulted her and inflicted an injury on her lip, as the siblings exchanged words and struggled with the men.

The Command said investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and determine the culpability of those involved.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and respect for the rights of members of the public.

The Command assured that anyone found culpable after investigation would face appropriate action in accordance with the law.
