NNPC Denies Ownership of Truck Seized With 2,145kg Cannabis in Ondo

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC Ltd., has denied ownership of a truck intercepted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, with 2,145 kilogrammes of cannabis in Ondo State.

The company made the clarification on Monday, September 7, 2026, following media reports linking the vehicle to NNPC Ltd. because of markings displayed on the truck.

In a statement by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, NNPC Ltd. said preliminary checks showed that the truck, with registration number MKA 960 XC, is neither owned by the company nor part of its official fleet or that of any authorised dealer.

The company also said the logo displayed on the vehicle does not correspond with its current official branding, while the truck was not found in its asset database.

NNPC Ltd. said it is engaging the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, NARTO, to obtain further information on the vehicle and establish how its old branding came to be displayed on the truck.

The company warned against the unauthorised use of its corporate identity, particularly where such branding may be associated with criminal activities.

NNPC Ltd. said it would cooperate fully with the NDLEA and other security agencies investigating the incident, including efforts to establish the ownership and operation of the vehicle.

It added that it is reviewing its brand protection and asset monitoring procedures and would take appropriate legal action where necessary against unauthorised use of its corporate identity.

The company also urged members of the public and relevant authorities to verify vehicles claiming affiliation with NNPC Ltd. through official channels.

NNPC Ltd. commended the NDLEA for the interception and reaffirmed its support for ongoing efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria.
