Anambra Government Matches Words With Action, Moves To Synergize Enforcement Of Environmental Laws

In line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s declaration of a state of emergency on the environment, the Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Environment, has made a major move to synergize enforcement of the state’s environmental laws.
Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, announced this while speaking to ABS immediately after a strategic meeting with the management team of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade and the Environmental Audits and Nuisance Abatement Task Force, held at his office in the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat, Awka.
Dr. Aguiyi said OCHA Brigade, the task force, and environmental officers will now work as a team, sharing ideas and resources while implementing the same strategic plan in enforcing the state’s environmental laws.
He noted that the Ministry will also partner with community initiatives, not only to enforce the laws but also to instill a culture of environmental consciousness among residents.
On their part, the Head of the Environmental Audits and Nuisance Abatement Task Force, Mr. Onyebuchi Ekene, and the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Mr. Anthony Agbaefuna, pledged to step up efforts to realize the state government’s vision of ending street trading, dumping of refuse in and building on flood channels, channelling of stormwater into streets and roads, and other poor environmental practices.
